Cenderawasih Bay | Damai
Cenderawasih Bay sits atop Indonesia's Birds Head Seascape on the western half of the island of New Guinea. Cenderawasih Bay gained notoriety several years ago for being a haven for whale sharks that are regularly spotted in the mornings around fisherman's platforms. These platforms, which use large lights and nets at night to attract small silversides baitfish that is sold as bait to offshore fishing vessels also attract the biggest fish in the sea. Costa Rica's Cocos Island is called the Island of the Sharks. In 2017 we took three back-to-back charters and turned them into two extra long itineraries aboard the world famous Sea Hunter liveaboard. The trips were nothing short of incredible so we decided to do it again in 2020 but then came CoVid, so now we've rescheduled for 2022! This is the first of the two back-to-back trips.
